Solving Legal Problems

My law office is based in Whitehorse, Yukon, where I advise individuals as well as corporate and public sector clients in a range of litigation matters. My practice is based on several guiding principles:

Initiative. I understand that clients hire me to move their cases forward and get the job done. I limit my case load and never take on a case unless I am certain that I will be able to deliver timely, quality service.

• CommunicationI work very closely with every client, from the beginning to the end of the case. I keep my clients constantly informed of every step taken, including detailed reports of what took place at court appearances and other occasions when the client is not present. I am available at any time to answer questions or discuss the case. A constant, open flow of communication ensures that I have complete information about the case, and equally, ensures that the client always knows what's happening and can alert me to any concerns or misgivings at the earliest opportunity.

Efficient use of technology. My training includes a university degree in computer science and experience working in the computer industry. I have applied those skills to develop extensive custom software tools to take care of such tasks as managing cases, indexing and correlating documents, generating forms, and organizing evidence for trials. This benefits my clients in the form of reduced billable hours and drastically lower administrative overhead; it also produces better results by providing more control over information and easier electronic sharing of documents with clients.

Transparent billing. All fees are disclosed and specified when I am retained and never change during the course of a particular file. I bill according to the actual time expended, not in fixed increments. My bills fully disclose the actual time spent working on your file and the specific work that was done, as well as the amount charged. I know that legal costs are always a paramount concern, and I welcome discussion of any concerns that clients may have about how much their case is costing and what options there may be for reducing costs.
